The Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) is a five-year program with a vision to unite the nations of the world in prayer. Started initially as a local vision in South Africa, the vision and activities spread to all of Africa and are now a global movement for the years 2006-2010. Concerted repentance and prayer on the ten days leading up to Pentecost culminates in an inter-church event on the day of Pentacost, including a "Prayer for the World" that is the same prayer prayed all over the globe on that day. Following Pentecost, a 90-day time of reaching out in the community is encouraged as well. The most detailed information on the activities around the world can be found on the international GDOP web site, but the following excerpts will hopefully provide an overview. |
